“B’tifkira taż-Żonqor”- Il-Front isejjaħ lil MPs ma jinsewx liż-Żonqor

Dalgħodu attivisti mill- Front Ħarsien ODZ qasmu tifkira li tikkonsisti minn ġebel taż-żonqor bil-messaġġ ‘aħjar żonqor milli tifkira tiegħu’ lill-MPs biex ifakkruhom biex ma jinsewx id-dmir tagħhom li jiddefendu ż-Żonqor mill-iżvilupp waqt li l-parlament ma jkunx qed jiltaqa fis-Sajf.

Front Ħarsien ODZ qed jesprimi d-diżappunt li l-ftehim bejn il-gvern u Sadeen Construction Group għadu ma ġiex pubblikat u tenna li dan juri n-nuqqas sħiħ ta’ trasparenza dwar din il-kwistjoni.

Front Ħarsien ODZ qed jinsisti li kull deċiżjoni dwar iż-Żonqor għanda titħabbar waqt li l-parlament ikun qed jiltaqa u mhux waqt il-waqfa tas-Sajf.

“Il-gvern jidher li jrid jevita l-iskrutinju parlamentari. Il-gvern hu obbligat li jħabbar kull deċiżjoni dwar dan il-progett waqt li l-parlament ikun għadu qed jiltaqa u b’hekk l-MPs ikunu jistu jsaqsu mistoqsijiet u anki jitolbu dibattitu parlamentari.”

“In-nuqqas ta’trasparenza f’din il-kwistjoni tindika li gvern għandu ras taż-Żonqor u mhux lest jisma minn dawk li għandhom għal qalbhom il-ġid komuni.”

Don’t forget Żonqor: Front tells MPs

In a symbolic action, activists from Front Harsien ODZ this morning distributed rocks, packaged as souvenirs to MPs with the message “Better Zonqor, than only a memory of it”. This the Front said, was a reminder to MPs not to abscond from their duty to safeguard Zonqor from development during parliament’s summer recess.
Front Harsien ODZ also expressed its disappointment that the heads of agreement between the government and Sadeen Construction Group has still not been published. The failure to publish this agreement before the Summer recess confirms the complete lack of transparency surrounding the issue.

Front Harsien ODZ also called on government to refrain from announcing any decisions with regards to the siting of Sadeen Group’s proposed university campus while parliament is not in session.

“Parliamentary scrutiny is crucial. If the site is announced in the next weeks, MPs will not be in a position to ask questions and to request a parliamentary debate. Therefore any results on studies on alternative sites should be presented in parliament.”

The lack of transparency on Zonqor suggests that on environment issues, the government is stubborn and refuses to listen to those who want to protect the common good.
