Front Ħarsien ODZ calls on PA to refuse Iklin petrol station
Front Ħarsien ODZ is calling on the Planning Authority to refuse an outline application for an ODZ petrol station in Iklin which according to the case officer report is in breach of the Fuel Service Stations Policy and is in conflict with the local plan which identifies the area as one of agricultural importance and which can only be used for the development of a primary school . The site also lies in the vicinity of a fireworks factory. Moreover the proposed petrol station is located on public land.
The development is also in breach os sequential approach advocated in SPED to ensure that rural areas are only considered as a last resort after consideration of feasible alternatives.
The Front notes the application was deemed objectionable in principle by the Planning Directorate and no traffic impact studies and environment impact assessments have been requested. Therefore the board has no choice but to refuse it does not make sense to commit the site with an outline permit in absence of these studies.
