Front Ħarsien ODZ and Friends of the Earth Malta hosted ‘Activists by the Sea’, a launch and networking event last Saturday at Maori in Valletta.
The evening created a platform for informal discussion between local activists and members of NGOs, who were encouraged to attend and present their work. Some networking and teambuilding activities were organised to facilitate sharing of information about current activities that are in need of volunteers, possible partnerships and areas of overlap.
A report was launched presenting the outcomes of the Right to Nature seminar held last March, which covered five aspects of environmental management in Malta, namely:
MEPA (Environmental Resource Authority and Planning Authority); Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Development; Natura 2000, Outside Development Zones and Scheduled Areas; Spatial Planning; and Management of Water Resources.
Each topic is presented with background information and identifies both threats and opportunities, with suggestions for improvements in each sector. The online version of the report can be found here.
Front Ħarsien ODZ hopes to organise more informative events in the future on different topics related to land use in ODZ.
